Before joining Tartu University as a PhD Candidate, I worked as research Assistant in Namgyal Institute of Tibetology, Gangtok (India). At the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology I was involved in various projects including the transcription, translation, and transmission of oral histories and proverbs, and ethnographic documentary film-making.
My PhD research revolves around mythic histories in Sikkim, particularly through the windows of prophesies, pilgrimage, and patronage. Researching my own community, the Bhutia, my research has grown out — and is an exploration of – the beliefs, values, stories, and rituals I grew up with, and as such I like to see my research as both an academic endeavour and a quest for understanding ‘the self’.
